JoAnn talks about her experience developing the same breast cancer as her mother,  who passed away at 53 years old. JoAnn emphasizes the importance of science funding as the reason she is still here today after she survived not once, but two occurrences of cancer. Science funding was recently slashed by the big, ugly bill to increase tax cuts for billionaires.

Bruce Buckingham, MD

Bruce Buckingham MD is Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics at Lucile Salter Packard Children's Hospital. He spoke on cuts to California Children's Services, which will impact families' ability to get insurance and treatment for kids with diseases like diabetes. He encouraged us to organize & resist the Trump regime.

Russell Vance, PhD is a Professor of Immunology and Pathogenesis in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at UC Berkeley. He discussed how infectious diseases will surge if the criminally foolish cuts on NIH research funding, NIH staffing, and the CDC are not reversed (Video courtesy of Mother Jones).

Mary Chan, MD

Mary Chan, MD speaks on what the devastation of NIH will mean for doctors' ability to deliver high quality clinical care. She warns that the Medicaid cuts not only will result in horrific sickness and death rates, but also will seriously impact outpatient healthcare and hospital care for 99% of people in the United States.

Darcie Green on Medi-Cal Cuts

Members from SUFSS attended a "Families First" rally in San Jose hosted by SEIU-UHW on July 26th. Darcie Green, Executive Director of Latinas Contra Cancer, spoke about how Medi-Cal cuts affect everyone and how ICE agents are sending people to the hospital due to their violent arrests. Though this is NOT SUFSS material, we wanted to share some clips from her amazing speech.
