Actions

Every action counts!

The Trump regime is actively working to destroy The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF) and other agencies.  They are cutting billions of dollars in funding, firing thousands of hard-working Americans, and decimating the entire infrastructure for scientific research in the U.S. This is halting research into life-saving treatments and stopping groundbreaking discoveries for diseases like Alzheimer's Disease and brain cancer. Please urge your representatives to support NIH and NSF.

A group of incredibly brave federal employees from the NIH wrote a letter on June 9th to Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, the newly appointed Director of the NIH. Their letter, known as the Bethesda Declaration, is on Stand Up for Science's website. They call on the leadership of the NIH and Health and Human Services (HHS) to protect academic freedom and scientific integrity. As of June 12th, the letter has over 20,000 signatures in support, including 45 Nobel Laureates and former NIH directors.

Please read the article describing the House Republican Bill and call your friends in Republican districts, urging them to contact their Senator to tear up this legislation and start again, rejecting any proposals that raise costs on families, take health coverage and food assistance away from families who need them, or drive up poverty and the number of people who are uninsured.

In response to the White House's Executive Order (EO) entitled "Restoring Gold Standard Science," Stand Up For Science has released an open letter which denounces the EO and affirms its support of truly rigorous science, according to its proper definition as recognized by scientific consensus and expertise. Please add your name and share as widely as possible.

Please download and read the California Medical Association (CMA)'s letter, addressed to the House Energy & Commerce Committee, which denounces the proposed cuts to Medicaid. The CMA writes that the legislation represents "an attack on our nation’s health and economic security ". They further discuss how the rural communities will be the most negatively impacted, and detail their specific concerns from the budget. Please share with friends and colleagues!

Send a letter to the president of your college/university urging them to protect your community and stand up for the principles of academic freedom. To get started, click on the word document icon and download our letter draft. Once you finish and send your letter, please also ask ten of your friends to do the same.
