Stand Up for Science and Sanity is an independent organization formed in Silicon Valley on March 7, 2025, in response to the Administration slashing NIH funding of medical and scientific research and moving to cripple critical medical and scientific institutions like NIH, CDC, FDA, NASA, EPA—the list goes on. Our mission is to continue to protest these attacks as well as broader attacks on healthcare such as crippling Social Security (threatening access to medical care of seniors) and moving to eviscerate Medicaid and potentially Medicare.

 

Science and democracy are interdependent and our mission includes standing up for democracy, including the rule of law and academic freedom. We inform rally participants and members of other important events such as the Hands Off national demonstrations and we are developing suggested actions to take now given the pace of attacks on our country’s most treasured institutions, including our universities. We think the issues we focus on are rallying points in red and purple states as well as blue states. These are not partisan matters. We hope to develop some road maps for other organizations with similar goals.

 

Our three rallies so far have been covered by local TV (two different networks) and have been well-attended. So, we are getting our message across to a widespread community.

 

We fully realize that matters are deteriorating, but we are in this struggle for the long haul.
